Whether you’re newly diagnosed, in treatment or supporting a loved one, our Centres offer practical help and emotional support tailored to your needs and at your own pace. No referral needed, just get in touch when you’re ready.

How to apply for our support

If you are over 18 years of age and living within the Wessex region (Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight), we will be pleased to help you access the many support services and sources of advice that we can offer.

To get started, we ask you to get in touch with any one of our four Support Centres: Chandler’s Ford, Waterside (Hythe), Isle of Wight (Newport) or Bournemouth.  You can do that by dropping by in person, calling or by emailing our centres.

If you would like us to make contact with you to arrange an appointment with one of our team, please complete our referral form, and we will be in touch within 7 days. Alternatively, you can contact our Care Team or speak to your local cancer support centre.

What happens next?

Within seven days of hearing from you, we will be in touch to arrange a time for one of our Wellbeing Coordinators to have a one-to-one meeting with you, either face to face or remotely.  During this meeting, we’ll ask what is important to you and if you have any particular goals.  Our Wellbeing Coordinator will collect any need-to-know information and collaboratively devise your personalised support plan.  They may even signpost you to other services, too, if we feel they may help.

For some of our services, like one to one counselling or complementary therapies, we run an appointments systems so, if this is a service we are recommending for you, you will be offered slots when our therapists are available.  If you are taking up any of our group activities, like yoga or singing, we ask you to book in with the Centre so we know who is coming.  As a new client of ours, we’ll add you to our email newsletter list so you can keep an eye on forthcoming activities.

What’s it like visiting one of our Cancer Support Centres?

We understand that visiting one of our Cancer Support Centres for the first time can feel a little daunting. But from the moment you arrive, you’ll be welcomed into a warm, inclusive and compassionate space, designed to help you feel at ease, away from the clinical environment of a hospital.

Our friendly Centre teams, including trained support volunteers, are here to listen without judgment. Everything you tell us is treated with respect and confidentiality, unless we have reason to believe there is a risk to your safety or the safety of someone else. Wessex Cancer Support is not a crisis service, but we will always do our best to signpost individuals to more appropriate support services should your needs go beyond what we can safely support you with.

We created this video with the help of the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce to show you what visiting us might be like.  Alternatively, you can learn more about our Cancer Support Centres here and contact our team.
