A youth football team in Totton is proudly sporting our logo in memory of a much-loved grandmother.
When AFC Totton’s U15s were unable to secure a kit sponsor, parents collectively covered the cost to buy it.
At the time, Teresa Byng, whose grandson, Kieran, plays for the team, was being supported through her cancer journey by Wessex Cancer Support.
Kieran’s parents, Barry, the team’s manager, and Mel, Teresa’s daughter, decided the shirt logo would be a fitting way to recognise our work.
“Mum regularly visited the Wessex Cancer Support Centre in Chandler’s Ford and it gave her huge comfort knowing she wasn’t alone. The complimentary therapies made a significant difference during her illness.
“Sadly, her health declined rapidly between ordering and receiving the new kit, and she died before she had a chance to see it. But we know she’s watching over Kieran and the team, saying ‘Go Get Em Floyd’, which was something she always said to Kieran before every match. It really means a lot to us all.”
MelSince Teresa’s passing, we have continued to help the family by supporting Mel’s Dad, Don, who often visits our centre for coffee and a chat.
“It’s a safe haven, home from home and a place that takes you under their wings as soon as you enter the building. They deserve lots of recognition for the care they give and the array of services they can provide, and we as a family are incredibly grateful.”

“This is a lovely gesture from everyone at AFC Totton U15s, particularly Mel, Barry and Kieran. The kit looks fantastic and a fitting way to remember Teresa. We are here for local families who need our support in what can be a really challenging time, and we owe a huge thanks to people like Mel and her family who support us, enabling us to be there for others across our local communities.”
