Our Safeguarding Policies

The aim of our safeguarding policies is to outline the practice and procedures for paid and voluntary staff in Wessex Cancer Support to contribute to the prevention of abuse of adults and children at risk through raising awareness and providing a clear framework for action when abuse is suspected.

It is aimed at protecting the adult and child at risk and the worker, recognising the risks involved in lone working.

The policies covers all staff and areas of work with specific guidance for projects regularly in contact with adults at risk and children at risk.

Our Safeguarding Commitment

Our safeguarding commitment is supported by a governance structure, with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. This includes designated safeguarding officers (DSOs), and safeguarding leads.

Our safeguarding policies and procedures are communicated to Trustees, staff, volunteers, and contractors. They are quality assured as part of our annual review process.

Our nationally recognised best practice on safer recruitment policy includes detailed pre-employment screening and enhanced DBS checks. This means we recruit staff with the right values, skills, and experience.
