- How far is the swim? 1.3 miles, 2,092 metres.
- How long will the swim take? Depending ability, anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour 20 mins – this is the maximum time allowed
- I am a kayaker but I only have an inflatable kayak? Unfortunately, inflatable kayaks are not suitable for this swim.
- Are the authorities aware of the swim? Yes, all relevant authorities receive a risk assessment and details regarding the swim, despite it not being published.
- I’m supporting by boat, what happens if a boat is approaches where the swimmers are? You need to do all you can to raise awareness to the boat approaching that they cannot cross in the swimmer’s path.
- I’m supporting by boat, what VHS Channel is used? This will be confirmed before the day.
- I’m supporting by boat, what flag do I raise during the swim? If you have a flag you should be showing swimmer in the sea flag, “alpha flag”.
- What conditions will result in the swim being cancelled? Anything from a force 4 (18mph) and above. If Freshwater Lifeboat deems it unsafe to swim, then the swim will be cancelled.
- How will we know if the swim needs to be cancelled due to bad weather? We will first update the Whatsapp Group, followed by an email. We will aim to make the call by 16:00 the day prior to the swim.
- My friend is a swimmer can I kayak with them? Yes, but we need to know in advance.
- I am starting on the Isle of Wight, what happens? You will meet with other IOW Kayakers at Hurst spit at the designated time and travel in convoy to Hurst Spit led by a lead Kayaker.
- I am Starting from the Mainland, what happens? You will meet with other mainland based Kayakers at hurst spit led by a lead kayaker.
