This year’s challenge is particularly personal. A good friend of mine who lives on the Isle of Wight was diagnosed with throat cancer and had to make countless journeys back and forth across the Solent for treatment on the mainland. Â
On 8th August 2026, I will be taking on the challenge of swimming 1.3 miles across the Solent from Hurst Castle to Colwell Bay on the Isle of Wight in support of Wessex Cancer Support.Â
This challenge has a special significance for me. Eleven years ago, I completed a Solent crossing from Portsmouth to Ryde. The conditions that day were far from ideal, with rough seas and challenging weather making it one of the toughest swims I have ever undertaken. By the time I reached the Isle of Wight, I had sworn I would never do it again (1:52)! Last year marked the 10th anniversary of that swim, and I was determined to take on another Solent crossing to celebrate the occasion. Â
Over the years, I have completed more than 70 fundraising events, including running, cycling, walking and swimming challenges, raising money for a wide range of charities close to my heart. Â

Thankfully, he has now received the all-clear, but witnessing his journey reinforced just how important support services are for people facing cancer and their families. Wessex Cancer Support provides invaluable practical and emotional support to local people affected by cancer, helping them through some of the most difficult times in their lives. Â
Every stroke I take across the Solent will be in support of those currently facing cancer, those recovering from it, and in memory of those we have sadly lost. Thank you for supporting me and helping Wessex Cancer Support continue their incredible work for local families when they need it most.Â
