Why we’re challenging ourselves for Wessex Cancer Support

We’ve asked you to make 2022 your year for a charity challenge by signing up for one of our swimming, cycling, skydiving or hiking events and raising money to support local people living with cancer.

Sisters Ruth and Katy have signed up for Swim for Hope and have already raised over £1,000.  Ruth shares why they’re challenging themselves to take on the 1.3-mile swim across the Solent this June, and how they’re approaching it:

“Many of us know what cancer can put us through, my sister Katy and I included. We lost our dear dad three years ago and our uncle two years ago, and are now facing the process and consequences of another diagnosis for Katy’s husband, Mike, and wonderful dad to my two beautiful nephews. We’ve had our hearts broken by cancer more than once, as many of you will have too. So we’re going to take our broken hearts and swim them across the Solent – because we can. And as Katy put it: “If we’re still standing after what we’ve been through, swimming the Solent will be a doddle.” We found out about Wessex Cancer Support because they supported Katy and her family; please sponsor us to help make someone else’s tough time a little less tough through the support of this wonderful charity.”

Please note that Swim for Hope has now sold out, but we’ve got lots more charity challenges up for grabs!
