Year 6 pupils at Hiltingbury Junior School in Chandler’s Ford have raised more than £650 by selling cakes at their Carols Around The Tree event. All the proceeds will go towards providing emotional and wellbeing support to local people affected by cancer.
Pupils and their parents came together on Monday 11th December for some festive sweet treats before enjoying the carol service, accompanied by the school choir and the Thornden Community Wind Band.
Zoe Loosemore, Headteacher of Hiltingbury Junior School, said:
“As part of our Year 6 curriculum project, ‘Does adversity make you stronger?’, our children really wanted to learn more about local charities and what we can do to help those dealing with adversity in their lives. After a visit from Wessex Cancer Support and hearing stories of their work, we were all very inspired to get involved and raise as much money as we could! Cancer affects many of us in different ways and in recent years has impacted our school personally, and so we are pleased to be able to fundraise for them.”
Events like this don’t take too much organising and are a lovely way to spread the word about our work and raise funds to support local people affected by cancer.
