DECLUTTER AND DONATE

With Christmas done and dusted many of us are having a new year clear-out and we’d love you to consider donating your preloved and unwanted items to its six shops.

Our shops raise £650,000 every year to support local people affected by cancer.

Mark Ellis, our Head of Retail, explains why donations are so important:

“We’re really grateful to people who bring their preloved and unwanted donations to us to sell in our shops because they enable us to raise vital funds to support local people affected by cancer. We get some fantastic donations, but we also know sometimes people aren’t sure what we accept, which can put them off coming in. There’s a simple checklist you can use: Ask yourself, ‘would I buy this from a charity shop?’ Is it sellable, safe, clean, complete and in good condition? If it is, we’d be delighted to receive it. If you’re not sure if we accept a particular item, please pop in and have a chat with your local shop, or give them a call.

“We receive around 300 bags of donated goods every week which are sorted and displayed by volunteers. Sadly, about 75% of the donations we receive are unsellable because they’re dirty, broken or unsellable.”

Although we receive many ‘as new’ donations, we’ve also received items like used toothbrushes, false teeth, an old wooden TV with a cracked screen and rusty saucepans with food burnt on. Volunteers give around 250 hours of their time every week to handle donations, and we pay £6,000 every year for unsellable bric-a-brac to be taken away.  Please don’t let that put you off! We’d love to talk to you if you’re not sure what to donate.

We’d love your donations.
