Craft and Connection

On the first and third Tuesday of the month between 12.30pm and 3pm, our Chandler’s Ford support centre offers a ‘Bring Your Own Craft’ session.

From embroidery and knitting to painting and drawing, our clients support one another whilst creating something that brings them joy.

Art therapy sessions have many benefits, including:

-Helping people to express emotions which can be difficult to put into words

-Improving mood and reducing anxiety and depression

-Building self-awareness

-Enhancing creativity and confidence

-Providing connection with like-minded people and supporting each other in an informal way, where the craft is the focus

It can also be beneficial for those who may feel uncomfortable with touch or talk therapies.

Art therapy

One of our art group members, Joy, has been coming to our Chandler’s Ford support centre since 2019 when her husband was diagnosed with cancer. She now paints beautiful designs on bottles and runs workshops for other clients. She also sews handbags to sell for donations to Wessex Cancer Support.

She says:

“I’d encourage anyone to give the art group a try as it’s a good outlet and you may discover a hidden talent you never knew you had.”

And don’t worry. Picasso or Van Gogh won’t be attending, so don’t worry about your skill set, it’s the enjoyment and connection that matters!
