Charity supporter Scott has successfully completed his challenge of walking 160 miles throughout November and raised an incredible £1,727 for Wessex Cancer Support. The 160-mile target was set following his bowel cancer diagnosis in May 2025, turning a necessary fitness goal into a powerful act of charity.

Facing the news of his diagnosis, Scott was advised by his surgical team that he needed to significantly improve his fitness in preparation for a major operation. He bravely accepted this challenge and transformed it into a motivating mission.

“Since being diagnosed with bowel cancer in May this year, I’ve been told by my surgical team that I need to get fit enough for a major operation. To help achieve this, I’ve set myself the challenge of walking 160 miles throughout November.”

In a staggering display of commitment, Scott was admitted to the hospital for 12 days in November with bowel complications and had to undergo a procedure to have a stoma fitted. Despite this severe setback, he still managed to walk on most of those days, refusing to let the challenge stop.

The challenge was about more than just personal fitness; it was a way for Scott to give back to the charity that has been a pillar of strength during this difficult time.

Giving back

Scott chose to dedicate his fundraising to Wessex Cancer Support, a charity that has provided crucial support to him and his family as they navigate the profound changes brought on by the diagnosis.

“Wessex Cancer Support have been incredible in supporting both me and my family as we come to terms with the huge changes this diagnosis has brought to our lives.”

By taking on this physical feat, Scott aimed to ensure this vital support network can continue helping others facing similar battles.

With the total still increasing, the money Scott continues to raise will directly contribute to Wessex Cancer Support’s mission of providing local, practical, and emotional support for anyone living with or affected by cancer across Dorset, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight. The charity is community-focused, ensuring support is close to home for those who need it most.

Scott’s success story is a powerful testament to turning adversity into action. His 160-mile walk not only helped him prepare for his future operation but also provided a significant financial boost to a charity that is a lifeline for so many.
