Why do I need dietary advice?
These guidelines should help reduce the risk of developing food-related infections while you are at risk of neutropenia. It is best to follow these guidelines until you have completed all of your treatment, both at home and in hospital. Stricter guidelines may be needed for some conditions.

Basic food hygiene

  • Wash hands thoroughly with warm soapy water before preparing or eating food and after going to the toilet or handling pets

  • Keep the kitchen clean! Wipe kitchen work surfaces with hot soapy water before preparing food. Remember to keep your food storage areas, fridge, cooker and microwave clean, inside and out

  • Keep pets away from food, dishes and work surfaces

  • Avoid using tea towels. If you do use them they must be clean, regularly washed at high temperatures and properly dried before use.
