Our flagship fundraising event, Walk for Hope, returns to the New Forest for its third year on Sunday 9 June, and we'd love more walkers than ever to stride out and raise vital funds for local people living with cancer.

New for 2019 is the option of a five-mile route, alongside the ten and 20-mile distances, making the event even more accessible for supporters of all ages and abilities.

Philip Wilson, who raised £670 by walking ten miles at last year's event, said:

I work for John Lewis in Southampton which chose Wessex Cancer Trust's Waterside Support Centre in Hythe as its charity of the year, and wanted to take part in this event to show my personal support to those living with cancer. What an emotional day it was! I met people who've had cancer and won, have cancer and are winning, and someone who has cancer but it's incurable. I burst into tears reading the dedications on people's backs, I had a moment in the middle when I thought about the many people I've known whose lives have been affected by cancer, and again when I crossed the finish line out of sheer pride. It was also a personal challenge for me - something to train for and a way of getting fitter and healthier.

Laura Beavis, our events manager, said:

The peace and beauty of the New Forest make it a fitting setting to come together to give hope to friends and family undergoing cancer treatment, to remember loved ones and to support everyone affected by cancer. We'd love 2019 to be the biggest and best yet!

Entrants receive an official Walk for Hope t-shirt, a fundraising pack, a training and event guide, and membership to a Facebook group where they can meet other participants and share fundraising and training tips. After being cheered over the finish line, walkers will be congratulated with a medal and well-earned refreshments!

Anyone registering before 31st March can take advantage of early bird prices of £10 for a child under 16, £20 for adults, £70 for a team and £4 for dogs. Visit https://www.wessexcancer.org.uk/Event/walk-for-hope-2019 for more information and to join up, or contact [email protected].

We use all of the money raised to provide practical and emotional support to anyone living with cancer in Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. The event is being sponsored by Irwin Mitchell Solicitors and Brewin Dolphin Investment Management.
