About the opportunity

Wessex Cancer Trust Community Youth Ambassadors are the face and voice of Wessex Cancer Trust in the community. From being advocates at local schools to making connections with local groups to holding events you’ll have the opportunity to use your passion and positively impact our work. 

We are looking for volunteers across Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire and the Isle of Wight.


What does it involve? 

The role is all about actively promoting the amazing support we provide to your local community. You can invest as much time as you like into looking after your area. 


Activities could include:

  • Representing Wessex Cancer Trust at your local school and raising awareness amongst departments

  • Approaching businesses, shops or pubs in the area that may be suited to hosting a collection can 

  • Picking up full cans from sites and paying the donations into bank 

  • Holding fundraising events in your area or taking part in a collection day

  • Giving talks to local community groups

  • Taking information and leaflets to local Dr’s, Dentists and other places people might need to hear about our services

  • Attending cheque presentations 

  • Promoting our appeals such as Cakes4Cancer

  • Championing Wessex Cancer Trust in your community, using your networks to spread the word and promoting fundraising opportunities.


What can I expect from the role? 

  • We will give you face to face training and provide materials such as collection tins, stickers, information leaflets, paying in slips, template spreadsheets and collection can forms. 

  • You’ll gain experience in community fundraising and have the opportunity to learn more about our charity and get involved in areas of our work that you are particularly interested in.

  • Volunteers will be part of our valued community team helping to make a difference to people and families affected by cancer.


Skills and Experience

  • Fun and outgoing personality

  • Enjoy meeting new people and be friendly and approachable

  • Good at using own initiative

  • Able to use Excel spreadsheets and comfortable counting cash donations

  • Access to a car or local transport

  • Reliable

  • Have empathy for patients and families affected by cancer
