Winchester’s Tinathon Challenge gears up for its third year

A growing group is getting ready to finish 2021 strong whilst raising funds for two local charities. And they’d like you to join them.

Now in its third year, the Tinathon challenge was initiated in 2019 as a tribute to Tina Jury, a popular local marathon runner who lost her life to cancer. Participants commit to doing 30 minutes of heart pumping exercise every day in December. This could be anything from running or power walking to a gym session or home workout. That’s every day – including Christmas Day!

The challenge is being organised by Winchester PR consultant, Miranda Rocksmith and personal trainer, Heather Terry. They are being supported by several local gyms, clubs and fitness coaches.

Participants donate £31 via a link on the Tinathon JustGiving page to enter (under 16s can enter for £15.50). If any days are missed, participants have to pay a £5 ‘fine’. All the money raised will go to Wessex Cancer Trust and Winchester Hospice.

Last year, more than 240 people finished the challenge and raised over £11,000. This year, the team hopes to reach 300 participants. Word has spread with entrants joining from as far away as Canada and America and across Europe and Scandinavia.

Miranda Rocksmith said:

“I have been overwhelmed by the huge success of Tinathon 2021 so far and we’ve already got over 100 people signed up. We’re incredibly grateful for the extra support this year from local gyms and PTs. We look forward to sharing our activities across our dedicated Tinathon Instagram and Facebook pages. All of us who have participated previously have really enjoyed the benefits. It’s good for reducing the effects of seasonal indulgence and festive stress. It’s also a great opportunity to kick-start a new fitness regime and end the year on a high.”
