We’re delighted to have received a share of the money raised from car parking collections during this year’s Southampton Boat Show.
A total of £4,722 has been split between Wessex Cancer Support, Southampton Sight and Solent Dolphin.
The collections are organised annually by retired Associated British Ports (ABP) employees, Steve Russell and Nigel Bassett, and involve ABP making its land available for car parking during the Boat Show week and donating the money raised to local charities. It’s estimated that more than £100,000 has been raised for local charities since the parking collections began. As well as setting up the collections in 2002, Steve volunteers and works tirelessly to raise funds for local people living with cancer, raising more than £30,000 during the ten years he’s been with us.
ABP Southampton Director, Alastair Welch, says:
“We understand the positive impact these local charities have, and it’s lovely to be able to contribute in this way. Thank you to Steve and Nigel for all they do to organise the collections, and to the team on the ground who help.”
Steve never stops fundraising for us and does so with a huge smile on his face. Thank you Steve for everything you’ve done and continue to do to support local people living with cancer, you’re a superstar!
