We’re looking for a new home in Bournemouth

Changes afoot

Fairview House on Hinton Road has been home to our Bournemouth Support Centre for five years, but changes are afoot and by the end of the year we’ll need to move out because the site is being redeveloped.

Our head of services, Colette Cowan, explains:

“We’re mindful that this might be unsettling for some people, especially because we’re only just starting to welcome clients back for face-to-face support as Covid-19 restrictions ease. Please try not to worry. Whilst moving may be a bit disruptive, we want to reassure you that we’re absolutely committed to the future of free and local cancer support for everyone who needs it in Dorset, and that we’ll continue to be here for you whenever you need us.

The developers are helping to fund our move and the new premises – whether that’s a temporary place or our new forever home – and we see this as a great opportunity.

We’re grateful to property expert, Jim Culverwell of Culverwell Consulting, who is helping us to search for a new home, ideally in an area of the community close to where we are currently in Hinton Road. We’re open minded and very excited about what this might look like, with our top priorities being accessibility and a relaxing atmosphere for everyone who uses the Centre. Ideally, it would be on the ground floor with access to some outdoor space. We promise to make it feel homely and welcoming, and that it will be a safe space for clients to access face-to-face support.”

Our Bournemouth Support Centre Manager, Steffi Colbert, says:

“There’s a saying that a home isn’t a place, it’s a feeling, and whilst we know moving can be unsettling, all of us who have worked so hard to create the calm and friendly atmosphere at Fairview House will recreate that in your new Support Centre. We’re looking forward to welcoming you.”
