Kim Blackburn, the assistant manager of our Isle of Wight shop, has raised £3,000 by shaving her head on her 54th birthday.
Well done Kim. We’re really impressed! Scroll down to see her pictures at the bottom of the page..
She took on the challenge after seeing first-hand the impact our care has on Island residents:
“Wessex Cancer Support runs the Daisy Bus which takes Island residents to mainland hospitals for their treatment. I’ve been told by numerous customers at the shop that it’s been an absolute blessing at a time of anxiety and exhaustion. The drivers are so friendly and welcoming, and they give people the opportunity to have company and find comfort with others who are also living with a cancer diagnosis. And our support across Wessex provides a welcoming haven for anyone living with any type of cancer and their loved ones. Covid-19 has meant the charity’s fundraising has taken quite a battering this year. While the shop was closed and I was at home, I decided to do something a bit crazy to shake off the lockdown, so it’s been brilliant that my moment of madness has raised so much awareness and funds for Wessex Cancer Support! Thanks to everyone who has dug deep and supported me in my challenge.”
Our CEO, Rachel Billsberry-Grass, said:
“Wow! This was such a brave and thoughtful challenge for Kim to take on and we’re so grateful to her and everyone that’s donated. We really do appreciate all of our amazing fundraisers because every penny they raise through all sorts of challenges and events really do make a difference to the lives of local people living with cancer.”
