Customers of Pickwell Farm Shop and Nursery in Southampton dug deep during 2023 and raised £7,791 to support local people affected by cancer.
Wessex Cancer Support’s volunteer, Steve Russell, organises bucket donations at the Bursledon-based business each weekend – thanks to brothers Robert and Andrew who own the farm, and every penny raised goes towards providing emotional support to anyone affected by cancer.
Steve has raised nearly £60,000 for Wessex Cancer Support since he began volunteering with us almost 15 years ago. As well as Pickwell, he carries out bucket collections at Southampton’s Annual Boat Show and Associated British Ports (ABP), and organises collection cans at various Southampton-based businesses.
Sally Hillyear, our Director of Fundraising & Marketing, said:
“As a charity which receives no government funding, we feel blessed to have superstars in our community who go above and beyond to support local people affected by cancer. Steve works tirelessly to raise money for Wessex Cancer Support and does everything with a huge smile on his face. Thank you, Steve, everyone at Pickwell and all of the other Southampton businesses who support us. We’re very aware that with the rising cost of living, people are thinking carefully about what they spend and so we’re grateful to everyone who gives even a little amount.”
