We’re coming to Dorchester

We’re coming to Dorchester to meet local residents and find out how we can best support you.

Our team will be at Dorchester market (Weymouth Avenue,  Dorchester, DT1 1QS) on Wednesday 23rd November and then hosting an Open Day at Durnovaria Band  Hall on Wednesday 14th December between 10am and 1pm. Anyone who has or has had cancer, is supporting someone with cancer or is bereaved is welcome to pop along to either event for an informal chat about the types of emotional support they might find most valuable. We’ll be selling some Christmas goodies at the stall, too!

Colette Cowan, our Head of Services, said:

“We’re here to support anyone living with cancer. We currently provide a range of wellbeing services, such as counselling, therapies and befriending, at our four Support Centres in Chandler’s Ford, Bournemouth, Hythe and Newport (Isle of Wight) as well as weekly drop-in sessions in Andover, Sing for Life choirs in Salisbury, Totton and Cosham, and transport for Isle of Wight patients travelling to the mainland for treatment. We’ve identified Dorchester as an area where there’s a lack of cancer support and where provision could benefit local people. We’d love to meet anyone who thinks they might appreciate some support, so we can find out about their specific wellbeing needs before introducing regular cancer wellbeing sessions in the New Year.”

We’re also keen to hear from anyone who might be interested in volunteering to help introduce support to more Dorchester residents. To find out more about this, and our community services, please pop along to either event. Alternatively, contact Katie Davies, Outreach Project Manager on 023 8067 2200 or email katie.davies@wessexcancer.org.uk.

The evolving needs of local people are at the heart of our three-year strategy.
