A chilly spring morning on 29th April 2017, the Wessex Fire & Rescue Service and Preservation group gathered with 26 Fire Engines and vehicles at Leisure World, Southampton in anticipation of the arrival of the children and families being supported by the Piam Brown Unit.  The excitement of the children at the site of so many fire engines was just the start of an amazing day. The families boarded the engines and off they went to Paultons Park for the day.

The excitement built as, one after the other, the engines rang out their siren and horns as they arrived at Paultons Park, it was a vision of red, which also gathered crowds of visitors. The children and Families were provided with ‘goody bags’ from Wessex Cancer Trust and Wessex Fire & Rescue Service, doughnuts provided by Oven Door Bakery, Fair Oak and Paultons Park provided tickets for all the family to have a fun day in the park.

With the sun still shining, the families boarded the fire engines and made their way to Romsey Fire Station, where an amazing tea party had been organised by the Hurle family and the firemen’s wives.  Everyone enjoyed pizza and cakes, donated by local businesses, candy floss from the Candy Floss King and was entertained by the Romsey Old Cadets and the Funky Playbus.

A fabulous day was had by all and Wessex Cancer Trust would like to thank everyone involved in the organising, support and participation of such a wonderful day!
