Steffi Colbert has joined us as the new manager of our Bournemouth cancer support centre.

Steffi, 56, is a trained counsellor. She first joined the centre as a befriender in 2018 where she drew upon her own experiences of having cancer to help others.

Speaking about her step-up to manager, Steffi said:

The centre wasn't open when I had cancer, but when I heard about it I instantly knew that it would have been a really valuable part of my recovery. There's a wonderful community feel here and everyone is welcome, whether that's just to drop in and have a cuppa with someone who understands, or to try counselling, complementary therapies, wellbeing activities or join our support groups. There's no right or wrong way to feel if you've got cancer. The centre is a place to come to get the kind of support that suits you best, when you need it, away from a hospital environment.

The support centre is based at Fairview House, 17 Hinton Road, BH1 2EE. Under normal circumstances anyone can drop in Monday to Thursday between 10am and 3pm. During the Covid-19 pandemic, you can access support by calling 01202 315824 or emailing [email protected]. For more information and useful resources click here.
