Our incredible supporter, Steve Russell, who has so far raised over £30,000 for us, has won a Room to Reward hotel break in recognition of the difference he is making to the lives of local people affected by cancer.

We nominated Steve, a retired Security Guard from Southampton, for the award. His hotel break is being provided by Room to Reward, a charity which partners with 475 hotels throughout the country who donate their unsold hotel rooms to them. They invite other charities to nominate their outstanding volunteers who give up their time to help those who need it most, and reward them with a complimentary short break away.

Our regional community manager, Charlotte von Sicard, who works closely with Steve, says that his support is invaluable to us as a charity which relies on voluntary donations to run its services:

For the past 10 years, Steve has worked tirelessly to help local families living with cancer. While he was working as a Security Guard at Southampton Docks, he provided car parking spaces at several maritime events including the Southampton Boat Show in return for donations, managed collection cans at different sites, carried out regular bucket collections and ran his own campaign, 'Save Your Pennies' - all the time raising awareness of Wessex Cancer Trust. Now, he never stops thinking of ways he can fund raise and does so with a huge smile on his face. He's one in a million and thoroughly deserves his break away.
