This year saw over 40,000 people take part in the world famous London Marathon. 11 of those ran to support Wessex Cancer Trust and together they raised £36,000!

Each runner ran for a different reason, from childhood dreams to giving back to the community. Each reason comes back to helping those affected by cancer in Wessex.

This year we had 3 Isle of Wight runners. Tori, a fitness guru and Alex & Vicky 2 mums with a big challenge!

Tori was diagnosed last October with Stage 3 Breast Cancer. Not the news a 26 year needs to hear. Being based on the Isle of Wight she was required to travel to Southampton General Hospital for Radiotherapy. Tori and her family were able to use our Minibus as transport from the Red Funnel to the hospital, which became an invaluable service.

“I ran the London Marathon (a dream come true!!), all in aid of Wessex, to give back a little something to them as a thank you! I still class myself.... lucky! Lucky I’m still here, and lucky I can still do daft things such as this marathon!!” - Tori

Alex and Vicky are two mums also from the Isle of Wight. They set themselves the challenge of running two marathons in two weeks! Which they completed with ease. The pair ran both the Paris and London Marathons in a fortnight.

After Fiona was diagnosed with cancer for the second time in 2015 she and her brother began training and signed up for the London Marathon, to raise funds for Wessex Cancer Trust. Wessex Cancer Trust was able to help Fiona rebuild her confidence through counselling and support for herself and her family.

Fiona’s dream to run the marathon started in 1983 while writing a school project, listing her hopes and dreams for the future. These included sailing around the world, riding in the Grand National, teaching and running the London Marathon.

“I’m so very grateful to Wessex Cancer Trust for giving me the chance to live this dream. Over the years their support has been vital to me and my family. They can’t make us better, but they definitely help us FEEL better. That, in the here and now, is worth so much!” – Fiona
