Stories And News Latest News Fashion Gala celebrates feeling fabulous despite cancer! Twenty-four models showed that it is possible to look and feel fabulous despite having cancer as they strode down the runway to tumultuous clapping and cheering at our Fashion Gala at the Grand Harbour Hotel in Southampton. Two hundred guests came together at the glittering Gala; an emotional celebration of the models' strength and courage. A drinks reception, exclusive shopping, two-course dinner and live auction were interspersed by three catwalk shows starring the models who showcased clothes from local boutiques House of Colour, Anokhi, Wardrobe at 24, Sakks Menswear and Delilah, as well as Wessex Cancer Trust's shops. Our Head of Development, Sofie Bennett, said: Everyone's experience of cancer is personal to them, but a common theme we see in our Support Centres is people saying they don't feel like themselves any more, that they've become isolated or have lost their confidence. Tonight was a celebration, full of laughing, dancing and singing and all of our models showed that it's still possible to look and feel good. We're incredibly proud of them for stepping out in the face of cancer. Sisters-in-law, Pat and Sandra Collyer from Andover, were both diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017 and were inspired to model at the Fashion Gala after being supported by Wessex Cancer Trust's Chandler's Ford Support Centre. Pat said: I wanted to do something I never would have contemplated doing before I was diagnosed with breast cancer, because I'm such a shy person. Having a complete mastectomy has completely changed my outlook on life, and I hope in some small way I've been able to inspire other ladies to find strength and show them they can still look and feel great during what can be a very difficult time. The event raised £10,000 which will be used to provide practical and emotional support to people living with cancer in Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. It was sponsored by Bon Voyage tailor-made travel and Irwin Mitchell Solicitors.
