Havant-based Apollo Fire Detectors, manufacturers of fire detection devices that are used worldwide, has been continuing its commitment to support the work of local charities with their lastest charity challenge.

In May a group of 18 employees competed against other teams in the Portsmouth Dragon Boat Festival at Portsmouth’s North Harbour, gaining sponsorship from colleagues and family members.

The sun was shining on the group as the took on heat after heat, narrowly missing the final by a few seconds.

There was also a Wessex Cancer Trust tent with a colouring competition for children and information about help available in the local area.

The teams fundraising efforts were topped up with the whole office taking part in dress down Fridays. Overall an incredible £1092.44 has been raised to support the work at our Cosham Cancer Support Centre. The funds will help provide free counselling, therapies and support for local people affected by cancer in Portsmouth and the surrounding area.

Commenting on this charitable support, Finance Director at Apollo, Pete Browitt, said:

“We have a large team based at our Havant offices, and it is heartening to see so many of these staff members engaged with supporting our local charities. Every month, it is these staff members who choose which charity we will support, and their enthusiasm and dedication to maximising our collective fundraising efforts that reinforces our commitment to giving back to our local community.”

Head of Development at Wessex Cancer Trust, Sofie Bennett, said:

''We are very grateful to the employees at Apollo for supporting our Cosham Support Centre. As a charity reliant on voluntary donations, fundraising from local businesses allow us to continue supporting local people. Congratulations to the team at Apollo!''
