I became a volunteer mainly to give something back after my own cancer journey. I feel I can emphasise with the client from diagnosis to treatment and beyond.

I get great satisfaction that I can help someone through their cancer, also it is not always about cancer once they are confident they are such interesting people to talk to. I love what I do!

My advice to anyone thinking of being a volunteer is to be a good listener, always greet with a smile make them feel welcome. Make sure you are in the right frame of mind so you are prepared to deal with people in distress, treat people will respect keep eye contact and show confidence.

Most of all thinking it through very carefully, once they decide to be a volunteer they will find it very rewarding to do.
