Hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year - it was a pretty quiet one for me as I’ve not been too well recently. I had a rotten head cold before Christmas which developed into a hacking cough - as a result of all the coughing, I’ve been suffering from strained abdominal muscles and soft tissue problems which are hampering my mobility. The new year has started with painkillers and also new medication for the osteoporosis in my spine and hips. I usually like New Year but 2019 hasn’t really started the way I would have liked it too.

On the plus side, I had my routine oncology clinic visit yesterday and my blood counts are all fine, the statins have reduced my cholesterol levels to normal and my kidney and liver functions are normal as well (despite the odd cheeky Bailey’s over Christmas!) It was a big relief to know that my results are ok - back pain and tiredness are symptoms of ALL and the worry of cancer returning is always in the back of my mind. My doctor has advised me to keep active and take painkillers - I have a new collapsible walking stick and a rather snazzy shopping trolley covered in flamingos as I’m struggling to carry things at the moment.

I was very proud to be part of the This is Me Journal project and also participated in the Wessex Cancer Trust Fashion Gala in November - I even got up on the catwalk and modelled 3 outfits which was very much outside of my comfort zone. The finale was such an uplifting experience with all 24 of us models on the catwalk together - I’m so glad that I did it. It was a celebration of life with and after cancer - all the models had either had cancer or had their lives affected by it. And we raised lots of money too!

I had to cancel a few of my trips in December due to health issues but have still managed to get out and about a bit, albeit with my trusty stick and taking things a bit slower than normal. I’ve had a couple of days in London and seen some shows - I went to the Pinter Theatre last week (not realizing that it was press night!) and saw some wonderful acting from Celia Imrie, Rupert Graves, Jane Horrocks, Gary Kemp and John Simm, among others. I also saw Les Miserables (again) and met up with some fellow fans that I knew from Twitter. I have lots booked in for this year - I’m hoping that my mobility starts to improve a bit more as there is lots to look forward to!
